Pioneer Park Griffith is thrilled to announce that it will be staging its first travelling exhibition, courtesy of Liverpool Regional Museum, A Cultural Facility of Liverpool City Council NSW. Endorsed by the charity Turbans 4 Australia, the exhibition ‘Our Southwest Sikhs’ follows Sikh migration throughout Australia back to the 1830s. It touches on cultural enrichment, agricultural contribution, military courage and sacrifice and leads into contemporary relationships in Australian life.
Turbans 4 Australia was founded in 2015 with the aim of supporting Australians in need through natural disasters, homelessness, and the Covid pandemic of 2020. Head of the charity, Amar Singh, was awarded Australian of the Year in 2023.
He and his wife worked closely with Liverpool Regional Museum to develop the original Southwest Sikhs exhibition.
Pioneer Park accepts their hard work with gratitude and humility and aims to build on that story with our own local history courtesy of the Griffith Sikh community. We have been generously gifted with their time and effort to integrate valuable information about Griffith’s Sikh migrant history from the 1970s to present day, from farming and sports to civil service.
The exhibition will be officially opened on 15 February 2025 and will run until July.
